Question Description
Journal instruction:
Let’s think about today and the immediate future: where will media take us? The secondary source for today’s journal is an interview (of sorts) with Kevin Westcott. He works for a large consulting group, Deloitte. This multi-national company offers an array of consulting, accounting, and managerial services for all types of big business.
Take a look this 5 page article—it isn’t too long to read and brings in some very interesting terms like: wearables, vMVPDs, cord-shaving, exclusive content, eSports, “highly fractured media-distribution channels, 4K video, 5G wireless networks, and so on. For your journal write 250 words about terms or ideas in this article that grab your attention or capture your imagination". How could these terms of ideas figure into your TV or film series? Could they more in the future.
Or feel free to pick a passage from the article to analyze and consider. For example, consider this passage for analysis: “Success [for media companies] may lie in developing an intimate understanding of the consumers media companies are trying to reach. This includes tapping social media, which, for example, has become the No. 1 way people learn about new TV shows”(2).
