Revision and Explanation

Task: In Week 1, you wrote a personal narrative about a person or event that affected your outlook on learning or writing. For this assignment, you will:

• Revise your personal narrative essay. Your revisions should take into account:

• Feedback provided by your instructor on the Personal Narrative, Part 1
• What you have learned about essay writing throughout WRTG 101.
• Any new insights you have about the topic of your narrative

• Explain what revisions you have made and why. This explanation will be written in the form of a short essay (at least 4 paragraphs).

Length: 800-1200 words for the revised personal narrative. At least 4 paragraphs (about 500-800 words) for the explanation of revisions.

Sources: No minimum number of sources. If you decide to use sources to support your essay, cite them in APA format.

Due date and grading: This assignment is due by the end of Week 8. It is worth 10% of your course grade and will be graded with a rubric. To view the rubric, access the assignment from the Assignments area of the classroom.

Essay checklist

Both your revised personal narrative and your explanation of revisions should include the following:

• an introductory paragraph that is written to gain readers’ attention and includes a thesis statement
• body paragraphs that support the thesis statement with good use of evidence (personal experience and/or sources)
• coherence within and between paragraphs
• a concluding paragraph that answers the question “So what?” or directs readers toward significant ideas to ponder
• effective integration and documentation of any sources used
• grammatical choices that meet expectations for a college essay and contribute to the essay’s readability

Point of view

First person (I/me/my) is appropriate in this assignment, but second person (you/your) should be avoided.

Formatting your assignment

Incorporate these elements of APA style:

• Use one-inch margins.
• Double space.
• Use an easy-to-read font between 10-point and 12-point.
• Include a title page with the title of your paper, your name, and the name of your school.
